Lead Systems Engineer
Role Overview
We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to work within a team developing novel autonomous vehicle control systems for the off-highway markets. You will work within a rapidly growing start-up business unit within an established PLC company. The unit’s mission is to drive the expansion of AB Dynamics’ world-leading solutions into new markets both in the UK and internationally.
Reporting to the ABDS Engineering Team Lead, you will support the development and validation of system models; derivation of requirements; development of physical architecture and allocation of requirements to said architecture.
You must be able to take technical concepts and describe them to the engineering team, clients, and other stakeholders. In this role, you will be working with a rapidly growing team. We are looking for candidates with a strong technical skill set. This is a hands-on role.
What will you be doing?
- Develop executable SysML models to validate model correctness and explore potential failure modes
- Work closely with stakeholders to define and document system requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of functionality, performance, and safety criteria
- Implement redundancy strategies to enhance the robustness and reliability of our systems
- Lead a small team of Systems engineers’ day to day activities including coaching, recruitment, line management and performance review

- Develop best practice systems engineering principles and embed these qualities into all aspects of your engineering work
What are we looking for?
- Doctorate or master’s degree in systems, software engineering, computer science or equivalent
- Expert knowledge of SysML
- Experience working to a defined MBSE process, combined with expert knowledge of UML
- Expert knowledge of API development for both internal and public use
- Experience of verification and validation strategies at both system and implementation model level
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust with clients and a commitment to exceptional client experience

Senior Mechanical Engineer
Role Overview
Due to continued success, we are looking for a creative Senior Mechanical Engineer, who has strong communication skills combined with good analytical skills and a passion for design.
As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support our Lead Mechanical Engineer in the ongoing design, development, testing, integration and productionisation of the mechanical components for a novel vehicle automation system. The role will involve managing design changes through a formal change control process, managing the workflow and taking ownership of the solutions you create.
What will you be doing?
- Preparing, analysing, and presenting concept designs according to an established NPD process
- Creating detail drawings and assembly drawings for manufacture
- Preparing supporting documentation such as engineering calculations, test reports, FEA reports etc
- Supporting the development of mechanical validation and verification tests and undertaking testing of new and existing products
What are we looking for?
- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer (2.1 or above) with excellent A levels (or equivalents) in maths and physics
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer working on Mechanical and/or Mechatronic systems in a related industry
- Experience of CAD, FEA and/or other analytical software packages

Lead Mechanical Engineer
Role Overview
Due to continued success we are looking for a creative, experienced, Lead Mechanical Engineer, who has strong communication skills combined with good analytical skills and a passion for design.
As Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the ongoing design, development, testing, integration and productionisation of the mechanical components for a novel vehicle automation system. The role will involve managing change requests through a formal change control process, managing the workflow and taking ownership of the solution. The role will also involve mentoring junior colleagues.
What will you be doing?
- Preparing, analysing, and presenting concept designs according to an established NPD process
- Checking and signing off drawings according to an established sign-off protocol
- Liaising with internal and external sources to assess performance, cost, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Creating detail drawings and assembly drawings for manufacture
- Preparing supporting documentation such as engineering calculations, test reports, FEA reports etc.
- Lead the development of mechanical validation and verification tests and undertake testing of new and existing products
- Agreeing project deliverables and key dates
What are we looking for?
- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer (2.1 or above) with excellent A levels (or equivalents) in maths and physics
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer working on Mechanical and/or Mechatronic systems in a related industry.
- Experience of CAD, FEA and/or other analytical software packages
- Experience of providing leadership to Engineers and Draftspersons
- Understanding of functional safety, and regulatory requirements and compliance: for example: EN 13766, EN 301, EN 61508, EN 12100, RED, Machineries, PUWER is desirable

Lead Embedded Software Engineer
Role Overview
We are looking for a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to work within a team developing novel autonomous vehicle control and perception systems for the off-highway markets.
You will work within a rapidly growing start-up business unit within an established PLC company. The unit’s mission is to drive the expansion of AB Dynamics’ world-leading solutions into new markets both in the UK and internationally.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, lead software design initiatives, and ensure the quality and performance of embedded software solutions for complex systems. Your expertise in software architecture, software modelling techniques (UML) and modern C++ will be critical to the success of this role.
You must be able to take technical concepts and describe them to the engineering team, clients, and other stakeholders. In this role, you will be working with a rapidly growing team. We are looking for candidates with a strong technical skill set. This is a hands-on role.
What will you be doing?
- Lead the design and development of embedded software architecture for new and existing products
- Architect, implement, and optimize C++ code for embedded systems with a focus on performance, memory management, and reliability
- Create and maintain software specifications, detailed design documentation, and executable UML models synchronized to the overarching SysML system model to describe system behaviour and safety mechanisms
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, ensuring best practices and high standards are maintained
- Develop robust communication protocols, including TCP/UDP and CAN
What are we looking for?
- Doctorate or master’s degree in systems, software engineering, computer science or equivalent
- Expert knowledge of modern C/C++ for embedded systems, and an understanding of MISRA C/C++, JSF or Google coding standards
- Strong expertise in software architecture and design patterns, including UML modelling
- Deep understanding of low-level programming, hardware-software integration, and debugging technique
- Publication of Open API’s for third party use
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust with clients and a commitment to exceptional client experience
